Wonder what happens when an ancient 19th century Catalan building meets sophisticated architect-designer Lázaro Rosa-Violán? Then meet this exquisite five-star property, The Cotton House Hotel. A jubilee that celebrates antiquity, Spanish culture, and modern grandeur. Marriott International restored and dare I say, succeeded, the historic building’s charm. Resurrected as part of the hotel chain’s 78th bohemian-inspired Autograph Collection, what six-floored Cotton House lacks in size, it makes up tenfold in sheer elegance and grace. Before opening its doors to sojourners and travellers alike in 2015, the magnificent creation originally functioned as headquarters for the “Fundación Textil Algodonera” (Cotton Textile Foundation), a cotton producing guild. You can explore this heritage further, immersing yourself in the Hotel’s Art Nouveau Jewellery collection and bespoke haute couture tissues. Despite its historic foundations, Barcelona’s Cotton House Hotel is very much a modern muse with enduring Catalan characteristics. From the neoclassical library with century old books adorning its warm wooden shelves to the seasonally influenced cuisine and cocktails, the hotel pays tribute to tradition. Yet, signs of modernity harmonise and integrate throughout – most notably seen in the famed marble staircase built in 1957. The wonder floats and spirals from above, evoking the spinning of cotton and achieving an ethereal feel. It is clear no expense was spared in achieving Rosa-Violán’s vision. Original elements, such as the intricate parquet, hand-painted frescos and boiserie embellishing ceilings blush, whilst personal ateliers measure, and luxuriously adorned hotel rooms flirt. A true testimony of history meets contemporary – The Cotton House Hotel brings individual elements of colour, pattern, texture, shape, form and light to an ultimate flamenco… You should really see it for yourself !
